Need new job?
I am currently bored of my current job. I probably do two hours of work max on a typical day. The job is dead end. My problem is I don't know which kind of jobs to apply for. It seems I am never selected for an interview or the jobs are not to be found. My experience included assistant customer service manager, postal accounting clerk, receptionist, inventory and price change clerk, invoicing, scheduling and cash receipts. I can also type over 9000 kph numerically. Any suggestions where to begin. I live in Ohio and would consider jobs in shelby, logan, miami, auglaize, mercer, darke and montgomery counties. I am kind of skeptical of temp agencies. I have a child and need stable employment with insurance.

- Have you tried exploring employment agencies? It may be a good way for you to experience different roles and figure out what will be best for you. You have a very strong background with admin and accounting, so there should be many opportunities for you. Staffing agencies usually have contracts with bigger companies and may be able to get you in. They typical have you work a temp to perm for 6 months and then the company can hire you outright. If you're really good they buy you out. It is sort of a crap shoot becuase it doesn't always lead to full-time work, but the different roles look great on a resume.
- You have a very broad background. You need to focus on a skill such as accounting and tailor your resume based on that skill. So take everything you did as a Postal Accounting Clerk and make that your focus. As an Assistant Customer Serice Manager you also have supervisroy skills so that is also something good to mention in an interview or cover letter.
As far as jobs with accounting the sky is the limit. Any industry has accounting. Sit down and think of what you enjoy. Do you enjoy the retail field? Telecommunications? Use job sites such as Monster or HotJobs and search accounting jobs in your area. Also use their resume center to build a resume. Make sure you are being realistic as far as salary expecations for the job you will be performing compared to the area where you live.
If you are really stuck try a career coach. They will help you from something as how to dress for an interview to writing your resume. They will also be able to give you direction as to what you may enjoy doing.
- Don't stay in a job that you know you don't enjoy and that will take you nowhere. You're better off going to a Temporary Agency that hires out to people that will keep you full time if you like, but they will keep you working in any case. That way too, you have variety and can try a few different jobs until you find one that might be something you could do long term. You could also try putting your resume up on Monster.com or similar resume sites. My husband put his up on there and updates regularly. He usually receives multiple calls within the first week.
What's most important is finding something that you enjoy doing that offers benefits and growth potential. You can't do that without leaving the one you're at (unless you want to start moonlighting at a second job).
Best of Luck to you! I hope you find something soon that you enjoy.
- My suggestion is stay with the job you have as you know jobs are hard too get! You say you live in Ohio Well i live in Indiana and the job market is slim and getting slimmer!
JUST BE HAPPY!!!!!!
