is there an ohio law that states cars have to be parked a certain distance from a mailbox?

The post office has stopped delivering our mail because they say they can't get to the mailbox. It's blocked. It's not blocked. The mail carrier just doesn't want to have to back up. Any cars parked in front of our house are at least 7 feet away from the mailbox. I don't see what the problem is here except that our mail carrier is just lazy. It is a public street and cars are parked on it everywhere.

  1. It has nothing to do with Ohio or law. The post office simply has a policy of not delivering to maiklboxes that aren't easy for them to get to. If you don't like it, you can take your business elsewhere. Oh, wait, they have a government enforced monopoly.

  2. I do not know what the law is, but common sense tells you not to block the path to the mail box. if the mailman had to back up to every mailbox he would never make it through his rout.

Not very fair to the people near the end of the rout, they would never get their mail.

  3. It's the USPS policy, not state laws that dictate where they will deliver mail. I had the same problem and also noticed it was only specific carriers that complained and wouldn't deliver the mail if they couldn't comfortably reach the mailbox from inside their vehicle. We had a different mail carrier almost every day. Some had no problem with the vehicles and others would slow down, look at the box, and just drive on to the next box. I think it's laziness, because as you said, it's a public street and cars will park everywhere. The postal customers have no control over who parks where or how close they get to our mailboxes..........
