What is the best place within 10 hours of West Michigan to wilderness hike for 3-5 days?

I'm trying to plan a trip hiking for a few days with some friends. I'm considering Garden of the Gods wilderness area or Cranberry wilderness area or Shawnee State Park in Ohio. Anyone been to one of those? Any other recommendations for the area?

  1. Ontonagon State Park, at the western end of the U.P. It should take you about 10 hours to get there, mostly once you cross the bridge and head west from St. Ignace.

Or, go to Isle Royale National Park. Drive to Houghton or Copper Harbor, and catch the boat over there.

  2. I believe they mean Porcupine Mountains wilderness area, located outside of Ontonagon

There are several places in the UP on Exploring the North. Try Seney National Wildlife Refuge and Pictured Rocks National Shoreline.

Most places are pack out what you pack in.
